Shimano 6603 triple left shifter - is it repairable?

Got on the bike this evening to come home and discovered the left hand shifter (6603 triple) would not shift up to the next ring. I can hear a clicking noise as the shifter is pushed onto the next position but when released it returns back to the lowest position. A quick Google search suggests repair is not really possible but if anyone knows different then please let me know.

Thanks for the reply.. I saw that earlier but the trouble with mine is that it won't click into position for the middle ring.
The cable tension is OK, the lever is sitting in the lowest position, the derailleur is holding the chain over the smallest chainring.
I push the lever and the derailleur moves the chain onto the middle ring. Normally the lever would 'click' and when released it still holds the derailleur's position but now when I release the lever the derailleur returns back to the lowest position. If I hold the lever out wide then the derailleur will hold the chain in the middle ring but it's tricky riding like that :-)

    hi mp31,
I had a similar problem with an sti shifter.
mine wouldn't shift down and sometimes wouldn't shift up.
I sprayed loads of wd40 into it, and it washed out the gunked up grease. it now works perfectly. however, it's recommended to replace grease that's been washed out. if you don't open it up, the recommended product is spray lithium grease. spray that inside. I've yet to pick this up and spray inside. if you're brave and decide to take apart, look up the exploded view of your shifter on techdocs.shimano.com. I'd try wd40 first though!
