I had an interview with a company 9 months ago and it went really bad. another position has opened up in the same company, but it is for a different job.

I would like to work for the company, but the embarrassment of the last interview is putting me off applying for new position. unsure what to do

Anyone have any similar experiences,. and what did you do?

How bad could it possibly have been?

There was a technical part to the interview which they stopped half way through as I couldn't think and was answering everything incorrectly.

Everybody does bad interviews and usually the best person doesn't do the best interview.

If you prove to them this time that you're suitable, why wouldn't they offer you the job?

You've absolutely nothing to lose attempting...

Personally, if that's all there is to it I would have no hesitation in applying. So long as I was confident about it beforehand. I'd write a cover letter to them outlining the reasons for which you had a bad experience the last time (assuming it was nerves or something similar and not from any form of intoxication) and hope that they would give you another opportunity to demonstrate your ability, that you're well able to carry out any tasks which are asked of you.

Every job I've ever applied for has always been followed up by a call to let them know I sent in an application and to enquire as to whether they had feedback. My friends think this cries desperation but having spoken to some recruiters, they view this as being keen. A quality they're very much interested in and I think that rather than not applying due to a bad experience, you should take your chances.

Go for it. I got a job after having two previous interviews in the same place before. She seen me as very keen and the third interview wasn't even an interview, she just gave me the job.

    They probably won't remember you.

Personally I wouldn't mention anything about having previously interviewed with them in my cover letter. I'd say nothing in fact. It's quite likely they won't remember you.

Worst case scenario, if asked, you just say you interviewed with them for a similar role in the past but actually you don't think it was the right role for you, whereas this one is. Or something like that. Basically put a positive spin on it.
