Toilet sounds like a fog horn when flushed

Hi. One of our toilets makes a very loud noise when flushed, like a fog horn.
We have a water pump. The noise stops if we plug out the water pump, but then it takes hours for the toilet to fill.
Can someone tell me if this is just a matter of adjusting something or fitting a new washer or something.

Sounds like the ball Cock in the cistern can't handle the pressure of the booster pump and there is give at the diaphragm. May need to replace the guts in the cistern and fit a flow restrictor.

Where does the flow restrictor go, inside the cistern?

Ìts a small insert that goes inside the cistern inlet. They come with most if not all new cistern packs. The packs cost about €20 from builders/plumbers suppliers.

Its probably water hammer. Change the ballcock. If its off a pump fit a Fluidmaster one as they fill full flow until full.

Oh. Thats good that they fill full flow until full. Especially with a noisy water pump above sittingroom.
Is Fluidmaster ready available in DIY stores or only in plumbing supplies.

If there in diy places there probably double the price.

About 20 euro in plumbing merchants.

I dont think its water hammer. That would sound like someone was kicking the pipes. The "foghorn" sound comes from the rubber diaphragm in the ball valve being forced back just before it is pushed fully closed when full.

Although this is speculation as the op hasn't mentioned at what point the noise occurs during the flush/re-fill cycle.

The noise is there until the cistern is about 3/4 full. If i plug out water pump first the noise only lasts a couple of seconds but toilet would take hours to fill
