INTRA???

    Hi all,

A question for all you current/former DCU students that are familiar with the INTRA process. I am currently in second year business studies and my semester one exams start next week. Im absolutely certain I am going to fail one of my modules and have been told that you must pass all modules in semester one in order to enter the INTRA process in March. People that start the process will be applying for jobs that begin in June, July and August while anyone who fails a module can only enter the process after the repeat exams at the end of August and apply for jobs starting in September and October.

What I'm wondering is if anyone knows if there are many jobs available in that period of INTRA? Also, how much of a disadvantage am I at having a shorter period to apply for these jobs and will the demand for these jobs be greatly higher than the jobs available? Ultimately, what are the chances of me getting a job at that stage?

If anyone can answer this I'll be forever in your debt..

Wow, thanks for such a great answer. I can rest easy now thank you. I'm sure alot of people will be in the same boat and on the upside I'll have the whole summer to think about my CV, etc. Also, I'm sure I'll need a holiday come June anyway!! Thanks again much appreciated!

I'm in Final Year business atm and was in your situation 2 years ago. I was certain I would fail law and low and behold I did, got 37% which meant I was in compensation range, but compensation only comes into play at the end of the year, ie summer exams. I was absolutely gutted as my other results were quite good. On hindsight it was the best thing that ever happened. All this may have changed since, just my experience. By not passing all xmas exams, we couldn't login to our intra to even see the jobs that we were missing out on. However, as there was so many of us in our year who had failed one exam and were within compensation range, they let us start applying around mid March, I remem it was just before Paddys day. When we logged in at this stage there were still loadsa jobs, but alot of which had closing dates of 13th March which we couldn't apply for. One of these jobs was with Volkswagen which I was ripping I couldn't apply for so I emailed INTRA and asked where there any other similar jobs or jobs coming up with that company, and they let my application go through to Volkswagen and I was up for selection so long as they hadn't already picked anyone. Long and short of it was I got the job and had a ball of a year. Perhaps if I had of passed all my xmas exams and ended up getting a job with the likes of KPMG, who were one of the first employers are year and took on alot of people, I woulda been stuck with that job and twice as ripping! So all things work out for themselve! :) Hope this helps!

Thanks alot guys, knowing that the majority of people if not all get a job is really reassuring and takes a lot of pressure off my shoulders going into these exams and as you say these things just work themselves out. Looking forward to the coming year and I'm sure I'll really enjoy the INTRA experience. Thanks again lads!
