    Hi all,

Thought I'd start a discussion on this. Very important PR aspect of running sports club, including GAA clubs.

How do you put a Twitter Feed up on a website which is not administered through a WordPress Account?

I understand about creating the Widget at the Twitter side which provides code to copy and paste but how do I finish the job then? I have managed to upload "buttons" which provide links to the Facebook and Twitter but a Twitter feed would be excellent for latest scores to the minute from games for those who don't have Twitter/Facebook access... It would also make the online PROing a lot more time efficient :-)

What happens when you add the code for the twitter widget to your web page?
Can you paste the code you are trying to use here & link to the website?

Copy & paste the code that the twitter widget generates and copy this code into a html text widget where you want to put it on your page.

    <a class="twitter-timeline" href="https://twitter.com/BallinhassigGAA&quot; data-widget-id="392421351144714240">Tweets by @BallinhassigGAA&lt;/a>
    <script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=/^http:/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+"://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");</script>

It is registering as feed but not coming up visually if you follow me...

    Thanks

Do any clubs use online club lotto or online shop for club gear?

    Is it frutiful?

Also, what kind of rate have website design companies charged for renovating your website?

Is it possible to start administering an exisiting website with wordpress, which wasn't set up via Wordpress in first place?

Current website is in html format, an absolute nightmare to change and edit with tedious coding and limitations galore!

Sorry to hijack your thread, but just wondering if you know of any well designed GAA websites?
I'm looking for a bit of inspiration.

Would you consider starting your own site afresh on wordpress? Makes the management much easier and allows you to spread the work more as it's so easy to update.

No. Someone would have to convert the existing html to WordPress.

There is a series of articles on TutsPlus.com about doing this.

What you need to do is create a widget of code for your website in Twitter.

To create widget, sign into Twitter and go through following steps:
    - Go to settings
    - Click on Widgets
    - Click on "Create New"
    - To create your preferred Twitter Feed, choose height dimension {NOTE: Cannot do width for some reason!!??}, theme colour, etc.
    - Then, click create widget and underneath the preview there is html code which you can copy and paste to your website in the preferred location....

If your website is Wordpress, there is a video on YouTube on how to do this directly to there also...

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, I think I did all of this but when I copied and pasted the html code into the site all I get is a link to the twitter page to view the tweets rather than the actual widget. Can't figure it out for the life of me even after extensive googling!

Are you posting the code into a html widget on the website?

Yes I think I am. Here is a preview of what I get when I copy and past the code.

Are you pasting the "Follow Us" and "Tweets by" in the same html widget? Copy & paste the code for the follow us button in one html widget and the tweets by code into another html widget. Maybe that's whats causing the problem?

Never thought of that. I'm away from my laptop now but I'll try when I'm home. Thanks so much for all the help.

Try this code for your follow button (in its own html widget)

    <a href="https://twitter.com/thurlessars&quot; class="twitter-follow-button" data-show-count="false" data-size="large">Follow @thurlessars&lt;/a>
    <script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=/^http:/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+'://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');</script>
