Transport to Naas with Bike

Hi guys,

I'm taking part in a duathlon in Naas on Sunday, and unfortunately do not have a lift from Dublin so am hoping to take public transport.

Does anybody know if it's possible to bring a bike on the bus to Naas? I was planning on getting the Bus Eireann one, but only if they have the under carriage storage and not the one at head height on some of the 109s (why do they do that)

If anyone has any experience with this, or indeed any other ideas I'd greatly appreciate it. Bit worried that I'll end up being stuck and unable to take part because I can't get there with my bike!

Sallins would literally be only a 5 minute cycle to where ever in Naas your meeting up

Is it more suited to a tri-bike or road bike dose anyone know?

JJ Kavanagh's buses to Waterford and Clonmel both Leave from Georges Quay and most of them stop in Naas and you can bring your bike free. Bus Eireann normally have the commuter coaches on the 126 route so should be ok but you may be charged for the bike. Bus ireann also have routes 130 and 007 which serve Naas

In general the buses on the 126 are normal single deck coaches, but some double decks can appear.

I looked up the train from Sallins to Punchestown (racecourse is where we're meeting) on google maps and it said it was a 9km cycle or so.. But I could have been wrong! Would prefer the bike to the bus as I could keep an eye on it while travelling.. Is it only a short distance from the train station to Punchestown then?

The train station in Sallins is at least 9kms from Punchestown.

It you do cycle from Sallins use the Blessington road to get to Punchestown it's much wider with a hard shoulder so should be safer. The bus will leave you in Naas saving you 3 or 4k or a cycle.

Thanks for all the help, I think I'll take the JJ Kavanagh bus in the morning and save my legs for the actual race!
