    Hi There,

We're looking for some advice on buying a 7 seater as we have no experience with them and not a clue which is the best. We have two older girls 11 and 14 and then we have a 1 year old and another on the way in march, so two kids in carseats and two teenagers. We're looking for a 07/08/09 reg diesel not petrol. Are looking at the galaxy they look the biggest at the minute but they're so so expensive and very hard to find. The ford smax is nice but seems a bit small, when the two rear seats are up there is no boot whatsoever, cant even fit the buggy in (which is a double buggy so that bit bigger). The mazda 5 same problem not big enough. Anyone any suggestions for us from experience???

    Thanks to all!

    Tony

The S Max and Galaxy are all but the same car - same width and length but with a lower roof line. The boot space is the same. That said, all MPVs suffer from a lack of boot space.

We have a Galaxy Mk3 for the last 4 years, and still love it. We had a double buggy too, but either had to push the rear seats forward or lower one rear seat down to get it in.

The SMax is great value in comparison, if you don't need the height.

An oblique option may be a Volvo XC 90.

Galaxy/Allhambra is probably closest to your needs. As they are relatively rare, you might need to look at the UK market. Unless you go for something huge (and expensive) - Q7 or XC90, once you start putting up the rear seats you're going to be stuck for space. Given that if you travel with 6 people, you'd have to fold down one of the back seats, put one of the older kids in the other third row seat and use the boot space that's left.

The Santa Fé might be another option, 2007 models go for €12-15k on carzone right now, but they have some DMF issues at high mileage to watch out for.

You could always add a roofbox to something like a an S-Max, if the half boot (left when one rearmost seat is up) is taken up by your double buggy.
