Hey all, i have tried to find the answer to my problem online but can't actually find the definitive answer so hoping ye can help

my employer told me at the start of the week that I may be let go. he will know for sure by the end of next week. So I have a few questions about redundancy:

    1. I would be 4 years there 1st of march. all the information i have read states years of service. will the last 48 weeks of my 4th year not count towards my redundancy. eg will my redundancy be calculated as 2 weeks per yr x 3 plus 1 week bonus or will it be calculated as 2 weeks per yr x 3 years and % of 48/52 weeks for my last year

    2. Online it says the employer must give 2 weeks notice minimum and if made redundant immediately you must be paid 2 weeks notice on top of your redundancy. as i get paid monthly should they have to pay me a months pay as notice? (if i get the full months notice that will bring me up to a full 4 years working for the company)

    3. what would be considered a good redundancy package. they are a global company and are downsizing, not all employees will be made redundant.

    4. i was on a fixed term contract for the first two years working for the company and then made permanent. will this affect the amount of redundancy i can claim?

sorry for all the questions but i want all the facts right in my head before i speak to my boss next week.

when you say you were on a fixed term contract do you mean you were a contractor? self employed? or temporary. This could have a huge bearing as if you were then it could be argued you have worked less than one year and so would not qualify for any redundancy payment.

i should clarify, i had 2 one year contracts and was then made permanent so have been permanent for just under 2 years
