How to consolidate shipment

We need to send a shipment to our customer in Chicago/USA.To send a one shipment is very expensive and to make it more economical I have had an idea to do one consolidated shipment.I have found the potential clients willing to ship the consignment to the same destination(Chicago).I would reduce my by 40%.It's a regular shipment(twice a month).I would collect the other parcels in my warehouse/pack them and prepare them for the delivery to the port.I'm not into Logistics and Freight Forwarder(FF) didn't give me clear answer how the system works.

I'm registered as retailer, selling online.I have a potential to grow and sell abroad. To do consolidated shipments I could reduce the cost of transport and/or possible benefit from more parcels being shipped(from different sellers to different buyers).I would find a de-consolidator in the final destination who would deliver the parcels to the customers by courier.
    Now a tricky part starts:
Who is a shipper and who is consignee.Do I need to register as Freight Forwarder in order to offer consolidated services?
    Please advice.

To distill your post down to the basics, the quotes you have are too expensive, you have found some other traffic that could be consolidated to get more volume and lower unit delivery costs.
The idea of consolidating and shipping, dealing with customs duties, local logistics with no contacts in the local market and no buying power or commercially interesting volumes, is ill conceived.
You issue is price, find a better price and see if the additional traffic from others will help, I doubt it as each seller transaction needs individual processing at each stage.

You best bet is to contact this forums transport and international shipping guru http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/member.php?u=222187

    Hello Sailors,

I will send you a PM with two companies that specialise in small shipments to the USA. They handle a lot of the craft / cottage industry and have tailored their services to small exporters with small volumes.

    Cheers,
