Scientology under fire for drug crime claim

It doesn't particularly surprise me that they would do this.

I'm glad it got a lot of media coverage so that the general public who might not know a lot about Scientology will be reminded that they're not to be trusted.

It's fascinating in a way, to see the spin they put on the Dublin office when it's a complete failure in every sense of the word. It's relying on money from overseas branches to prop it up because it's in the red. It has a miniscule membership. I get the feeling it's being propped up solely so COS doesn't lose their presence in Ireland.

Since 2008, the facade has been crumbling down. (Thought to be a mixture of wider internet access globally, Anonymous' series of protests and funnily enough, South Park dedicating an episode to Scientology).

Watching them insist that things are going great and pull desperate stunts like this is rewarding.

The bad thing about this is that as they get more desperate for members, they target vulnerable people like drug addicts. People they know will latch on to any semblance of hope.

Here's a Pat Kenny interview with Sabrina Shortt, a representative of the church. She says she got a bit "excited" with the 85% number. She's a good speaker, they really are masters of PR and spin.
