The Glass Key

A seat belt cutter but a special one.

I found what I guess was a seat belt cutter washed up on the beach a while back (can't find it or I'd post a picture). It was a small plastic hook with a blade enclose in it and the hook was attached to about 6 inches of webbing with a small loop in it (also had some velcro on it).

There was no solid handle like most of the belt cutters and it was very light and suitable to hang or clip inside a bag or on rucksack or belt webbing.

Has anyone seen anything like it anywhere?

It could be of the kind that is worn by SAR crews or lifeboat crews. Might be worth having a look in marine supply places or aviation supply shops like Transair in the UK.

It was something like this http://swingkingknives.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/69 but smaller blade area and instead of that plastic finger hole is had a narrow hole with the tape looped through it and stitched with an end loop. The entire plastic cutter part was no more than an inch square.

I don't desperately need one but thought it would be easy to find another.

Sounds like Kite-surfing gear, for emergency cutting of harness, strings etc;
Aha, Googling has turned up that they're called a hook-knife; at least I think this is what you're looking for

Getting there the 4 inch Plastic hook knife without the hand loop so its only about an inch long would be similar. I've just tried googling for images of hook knife + parachute and skydiving that also gives me a few similar ones.

No not that one, but I've looked at a god few now and given unlimited finances that one would be on a short list. Don't have a link handy but the CRKT one that clips on to a car seat belt is another expensive nice to have item.

Its actually a bit weird as I discovered I've been carrying one all along, well sort of.

I always have the bones (sorry pun not originally intended) of a dog grooming kit with me and when I did a bag sort out today remembered the mat splitter

Its not as strong as a dedicated seat belt cutter but still does the job.
