Guarantee on leather recliner

We are looking to buy a leather recliner sofa and have looked in a number of shops. Some of the shops offer a ten year guarantee on the frame and five years on the recliner mechanism. The shop that appears to offer the best value was very dismissive when we asked about a guarantee and said that there would be a one year warranty and that guarantees for ten years are meaningless.

Should we be concerned about this and pay extra for the guarantee? There appeared to be relatively little difference in quality between the different sofas we looked at.

Yes, walk away from the shop that doesn't offer the guarantee!

A warranty or guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights, but if a shop isn't willing to offer one while many competitors do, then there's a good chance their product doesn't match up either.
