Anpost pathetically slow to US

Ok, the title of this thread may be a bit misleading.

I post a few various small plastic items that can fit in a standard envelope to different places each week.

Everywhere takes about a week, even places like Australia, no worries there.

But the US? They can take up to 15+ days, sometimes longer.

Now these are being sent through standard registered mail with tracking, and I see that they reach the NYC sorting facility quickly, but what happens from there is anyone's guess. They take so very long to go on from there.

Example, something I sent on the 6th, made it to NYC sorting office on the 8th, and has been sitting there since. Total mess, and this happens far to often.

    So I need an alternative.

City post? Anyone got experience with them?

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

If it makes it to the NYC sorting office quickly, then how is it An Post's fault? Surely it is USPS that is to blame since they would be taking over once it reaches their shores?

Issue is USPS. If anything, An Post were extremely efficient.

For an extra €3 you could use Express Post and you still get tracking number and should be delivered in 5 working days

Hence why me prefacing my post by stating that the title is a little misleading.

So this takes it into a different priority category of USPS mail for a faster delivery? As said already, the issue isn't getting it to the US, it's what happens once it's there.

Yes - its a different category .............Registered is normally 7-9 days and Express 4 days.
This is for main urban centres in USA .

    Out-lying areas may take longer

Thanks for that. It's going to save me so much hassle going forward.

But you won't have a signature for proof of delivery for express.

From my brief research on the AnPost website, you do get proof of delivery to the specified address, but not a signature.

It's the speed I'm after, so will be trying this out for the next few times.

I've never had a problem of it taking 15+ days, if anything they're there in around 7-10 days using regular post. USPS had really bad problems with late deliveries over the holiday period so it could be that

All you get is a barcode scan but the packet could have been delivered to anyone or left anywhere.

Won't satisfy Paypal if you are receiving payment that way

If possible print the address in the format shown on usps website. Ensure custom label is attached and clearly written.

This allows auto address software direct the package and will greatly speed it up. Handwritten or badly formatted addresses may need manual processing and causes most delays.

I recently sent a very important registered letter to the New York City and it took 4 and a half weeks to arrive there. I was really mad as it was an old heir-loom photograph and I had started the claims process against. Was really relieved it arrived there. However don't send anything really irreplaceable via An Post as their service to America is beyond a sick joke. It would have been delivered quicker back in the days of sail and the pony express.
