Hi there, Was trying to upload an activity lastnight and it just came up failed on the laptop. On Strava it just uploaded an activity of 1.4km when it wasn't that length. Any ideas?

did you accidentally press stop on your garmin 1.4km into your ride?
Check your History and Activities and see what the top one reads.
If you forgot to press reset it will say 'Activity in progress' that's another possible reason for it.

When I pressed stop it showed the correct distance and time taken alright.

So does your last activity show the correct km for your ride or 1.4km?
The Garmin will show on screen the distance you travelled, but will only record the distance you travel in between hitting stop/ start

Don't have it infront of me.

Any idea why if I had done that why it would upload on Strava then and not on Garmn Connect?

No idea, I know I had issues a few months ago having to update my computer software to get garmin plugins up to date and working again.
But yours sounds like a issue recording the data.
There is often a discrepency between distances measured on garmin/ strava - maybe it was enough of a discrepency for Garmin to see nothing (less than 1.4km) to record?

This sounds like corruption. I had an 80km ride once that I absolutely hammered. Got home, plugged the thing in, then for some reason I plugged it out again while it was initialising and ugh, ride corrupted. Came up as like 10km instead of 80. Gutted.

Did you unplug the Garmin after uploading it to Strava, or reboot the machine or anything? There are tools available that people have written to fix corruption, but you'll have limited success.

If your intention is just to log the KM in Garmin connect, you can export the course from Strava, upload to GC and then fill in the time/speed stats manually.

I've had some success with the Fit File Repair tool available at

    http://fitfilerepairtool.info/

to fix files that won't load into Connect.
