I've just put a bid in on eBay for a Prologo Nago Evo Pro T 2.0... thoughts? Or should I be looking at Fizik Arione/Antares?

Impossible to say, saddles are completely personal.

Fizik Arione is a very well regarded saddle but was a bad fit for me - doing me damage bad. Darkglasses is right about them being personal.

I've got a Specialized saddle with a cut out now which suits me great but many people don't suit them.

You Dublin based - I could loan you the Arione if you want. Rathmines based.

What saddle did you go for? I'm looking at buying the Specialized Romin Evo Pro. I have a Spech saddle at the minute but was also considering the Antares Versus.

Yep. Brooks B17 for me after trying a few others, with an without cutouts, gel inserts, etc... There was talk of a boards saddle exchange thread at one point to help reduce the expense of this. I think some shops also have 'testers' that you can borrow for a day. Outside of that, it is largely pot luck.

I think it was the Romin Evo Expert - I'm in work and it's at home at the minute. I'm sure it was a Romin Evo something and it only has Ti rails so that means the Expert I think.

I might ask you about that when I get my new frame set.

    We're neighbours apparently.

You'd be very welcome - it's a Fizik Arione CX Kium.

Appreciate the offer, I've a friend though with the Arione so he's gonna let me borrow it for a spin. I've seen the Prologo and like the shape but we'll have to see. At the moment the bidding isn't to bad on eBay so I guess if its uncomfortable I can always sell/trade.

Some shops who stock Fizik saddles carry some test ones which you can borrow for a bit. Bike Hub in Howth might do this, but I am not certain. You could ring em to find out.

i got a prologo zero pas on my rose when it came this time last year. one look at it compared to he saddle i had on my entry level felt road bike and i knew i was going to hate it.

and first ride i did, so much harder, thought i had permanently damaged my back end. that was the one and only time though that i have ever complained about that saddle. I've put in thousands of km's on it now and i absolutely love it. wouldn't change it for anything else.

as a result, been looking at a prologo tri saddle for my new tri bike, but not bitten the bullet yet.

you might love the prologo, be worth giving it a go and seeing. nothing says a fizik would be any better for you, except maybe all the fizik owners. the fizik might be better, but i wouldn't panic about the bid, it might be your perfect saddle

Try and take it on a good long spin. I liked the Arione for 50km spins - there was some slight discomfort but I just ignore things like that.

Once I was using it for an hour at a time on a turbo 2 or 3 times a week - very little standing - and a long ride on the weekend then it became a problem.

If you feel it applying pressure to your perrineal area then be careful ;) I know the Arione works great for many people - I just don't understand how their body geometry differs!

Ism Adamo, looks like something from Star Wars, feels like sitting on something that is very comfortable and fast.

yeah i got a prologo with my rose too, but luckily i didnt ride it coz id a too big frame and returned it.

the roadbike now has the selle italia slr max gel flow...very nice saddle with a big cutout

on my steel single speed beater i have had the specialized avatar for the past several years and its a seriously awesome saddle in which ive rideedn up to 40 k without a chamois and been comfy. think they discontinued tho....make sure you get the right width for yourself is the main factor id say

When I was shopping, they set me up on a turbo to fit and try out a few saddles. I didn't ask to borrow one. Got a Brooks B17 from them in the end (with a boardsie discount...).

I had a Prologo Nago Gel PAS saddle a few years ago, very stiff and hard saddle and has minimal padding and I hated it and used it for one short spin of 14km. I swapped it with PPrenderville for a Prologo Scratch and got on ok with it but found it too soft for long spins and I'd get numb after an hour or two on it.

I now have a Prologo Zero PAS on my winter bike and love it, comfortable and even though the padding is quite thin it's still very comfortable. I have a Prologo Kappa EVO PAS on my carbon bike, have only done three short (30km) spins with it so far and it seems very comfortable. It's curved and designed for comfort on long spins whereas the Zero is very flat and designed for shorter spins. I will try them both on out long spins when the weather get improves and give my verdict as to which is better, then.

FWIW I use a Fizik Aliante and a stock Felt saddle on my road bikes, slightly prefer the latter.

i need to change mine, starting to cause serious numbness no matter what height or tilt i put on it. non cutout that came with the bike but dont have a lot of money and dont even know where to start. would like to hear your opinions on the ones you get

I've got one of the ebay carbon saddles, possibly the most comfortable saddle I have. Did the evil spin on it followed by the wicklow 100 the next day without any problems. I've ordered another one for another bike.

That's probably the last saddle on earth on visual impression that I'd say would be comfortable Lenny! Jesus that looks like it'd split you in two after 100yards.

0 padding and a lot of flexibility is what works in my bottom, my favorite saddle so far

    mega-fat-weight.jpg

And I 've got this one too but haven't used it yet

looks can be decieving. I was apprehensive first time I went for a spin, but after about 5 minutes I forgot i had a new saddle, and only realised after I got home and noticed it when i got off the bike. I figured id try it, and if it didnt work out id sell it, but it did work out.

Does anyone know of anywhere in Dublin other the Cyclesupertstore that would let you test a saddle before buying?

Try Wheelworx, I'm not totally sure but think they might have test saddles upstars.
