Fedex Duty

Hi guys, I know this has been covered previously but I need to know where I stand and have people had similar issues. A while back I ordered an item of clothing from China that including delivery cost €217.54. The item was held by customs in Dublin as the sender under declared its value and this obviously aroused suspicion. I sent proof of the cost of the item and it was quickly cleared and delivered. Asked the driver was there not tax to be payed on delivery and he said no but maybe I will get a bill. Few weeks later I get a duty/tax invoice from fedex for €27.93 which I payed straight away. Then another duty/tax invoice arrives for the same item, this time for €178.45. I ring fedex and question why I have got a second invoice and why for so much. To be honest I don't think customer service could really answer and gave me an email to query this. All they could say is that possibly the first invoice is an estimate and the second one is the accurate figure. Which hardly makes sense. So I email and now I am waiting for a reply. The item cost €217.54 including delivery and fedex want €206.38 in duty/tax/admin fees. Any help or advice appreciated.

Something thing similiar here with me. Bought a satellite box from Hong Kong roughly worked out at 100 euro and now fedex have billed me for a massive 129.69 in euros.

    The breakdown of the bill

    Fedex Addl Vat (eu vat)18.37
    Admin fee 10.50
    Ligiation 80.00
    Vat at 23% 20.82
    Total 129.69

I gave them a buzz and they just passed the buck and they gave me an email to query to imvhelp@fedex.com.

    Mine breaks down as follows.

    Fedex international priority duty 26.10.
    Fedex addl VAT 41.03.
    Administration Fee 10.50.
    Litigation 80.00.

    And the first invoice.

    Fedex international priority VAT 15.01
    Administration Fee. 10.50.

23% VAT on top of each of those.

Did you here anything back from them yet?
I just emailed them there. I received an original bill of just under 10 euro for Eu Vat. From my calculations roughly thought it would cost me about 25 euros in vat and admin charges. Wouldn't be using Fedex again even if they sort it out, don't need this kind of hassle. Twenty minutes on the phone and still no answers from them.

Heard nothing either. Keep a record of your email. That will stand to you. I won't be doing anything more until they reply, regardless of what bills etc they send.

Yes that sounds like the right thing to do. I have a feeling the next time we here from them is when a reavaluated bill drops through the letter box.

I had a similar thing with FedEx. I told them that as soon as they issued something from Revenue to confirm the fee, I would pay. They hassled me for a while and then passed it to a debt collector. I got one call from them, restated what I'd said to FedEx and heard nothing more....

Thats a good idea too,ask for a receipt for what they paid revenue. I will wait. I have questioned the invoice so its not like I'm doing nothing about it. Ball is in their court. This whole area needs to be regulated.

Finally received a reply from Fedex and a revised bill.

    Re: Invoice number 9-329-11581

Thank you for your query regarding the above invoiice.

When the goods were cleared through Customs they were cleared with the value of $30 which had been declared on the commercial invoice. Custom s then requested proof of the value of the goods and a second Customs entry was declared based on the cost of $138.00.

I have attached a breakdown of charges showing how much the Vat should be based on the value of $138.00. Invoice 932911581 is for the additional Vat as the first Customs entry was under declared, there is also an €80.00 litigation fee that has been levied as we have had to submit a second Customs entry.

I have credited the litlgation fee as your were not advised of this and also credited the advancement fee leaving the Vat for €18.37 on invoice 932911581 and the Vat on invoice 932909294 for €4.79. New invoices will not produced but our system has been adjusted to reflect the revised amount of €23.46 due.

    Kind Regards

That litigation sounds like a makey up thing.

Wow. I think the same. The litigation is money making. Imagine how much they make if they charge x amount this fee. Most people might not even question it! Haven't received anything yet but its good to have that info they sent you and especially the reason why they dropped the litigation. I may need to use that!

Will be avoiding Fedex if using China again, its sound like a racket by Fedex using customs duty as an angle. I wonder how much a part Irish customs play in this?
Do they actually inspect the package or is all down to Fedex.

As you have said some people may pay up and not question it.

That litigation fee sounds like a right old scam by them.
