Divorce after being completely abandoned

Just wondering if anyone can give me a bit of info on getting a divorce if one party cannot be traced. My friends husband up and left in the middle of the night a few months ago and has only called once since. She was happy enough to have him gone to be honest but she is wondering about how she would divorce him if he goes completely off the radar? They have two kids, which he doesn't seem too bothered about and she was the sole wage earner for the past few years so she's ok financially, I think she just wants a bit of proper closure.
