Have ye still got your Christmas decorations up?

I just started taking them down today. It's depressing taking them down. I have left them up until February in recent years...kinda makes January easier somehow.

Can't wait to take the rubbish down myself, usually we take what little we put up down before the new year. Hate Christmas, its consumer zombism, all its associated junk and crappy music with an absolute passion.

After New Year's Day, I find Christmas decorations very depressing to look at. I recently heard somebody describe it as "like seeing porn after the **** is over".

Took down the tree last night, it was more tedious than putting it up

it was still up due to laziness in the evenings after work and drinking at the weekends,

I wanted to throw a sheet over it till next year, but the other half disagreed

Come out from under my bed and look for yourself. You can also help me haul the stuff up to the attic.

Only took ours down last Saturday.

I don't get people taking them down the 1st / 2nd of Jan.

Why not leave them up for the actual duration of Christmas instead of letting the shops tell you when to do it?

The duration of Christmas is one day.

Fair enough. For me it's the 6th. I put the tree up the weekend before Christmas and take it down the weekend after the 6th.

So typically, that's only 2-3 weeks.

Each to their own and all that, but I just don't get people putting the decorations up well in advance and then getting rid of them at the first sight of creme eggs in the shops.

Yeah, last I heard there was 12 days of Christmas.

Think the tree might be decaying and the possibility of it becoming zombified grows bigger by the minute. I don't to be strangled in my sleep with Christmas lights, thank you very much.

A few years ago we moved into a new build a few weeks before Xmas. I was in Atlantic Homecare around Dec 27th and spotted some brilliant deals on Xmas trees and decorations in the sales so I bought a 2nd tree and stuff. I put the new tree into the completely undecorated/unfinished sitting room and threw some tinsel on it and a few baubles. That room remained unfinished for over a year and I never took down the tree. Which meant the tree was up for a full 12 months. It was actually quite unnerving whenever I looked into that room.

Would be depressing to be still looking at them in mid January. Even more depressing than Xmas actually being over. Take 'em down. The games up.

Decorations have been down a while but there's still a few in the area who still have their Christmas lights up on the outside of the house.
