Music playback won't stop on Huawei Ascend G300

I've had this problem a while where once I start playing music I can't get the player to stop by conventional means. Either the phone fails completely to respond to pressing the stop button or the player force closes. I've tried about 10 different players and the result is the same with them all.

I'm not sure how to work out where the problem is, if it's memory related or a hardware issue...

    Any clues?

I installed a memory booster and killed all background apps but still have only 26% memory free. Where is the rest gone?
Total memory is listed as 387 but this phone should have 512.

Not sure, that phone has a mind of its own. Try a factory reset and see how you get on.

I've an Nexus 4, 2GB of RAM but available is 1861MB - the system reserves itself space for mandatory services.

It's just upped and uninstalled the Play store so it has. Bit tricky to get that back.
