Fieldstone - which cill stone type to use?

I've decided to put fieldstone (see attached photo) on the front of my house. It's in a rural setting but not sure which window cill stone type to go with. I've narrowed it down to either granite (rough pick) or limestone.

If anyone has built in fieldstone and used either of these cill types then can you please let me know which you favoured? Thanks.

I'm using a similar stone and we're going with bush hammered yellow granite.

Priced
granite (roughly €30/m for fair pick/pineapple) (€35 for bush hammered/smooth)
Sandstone (€45/m)
Yellow granite is roughly €10/m more than standard granite.

Add an extra €10/m for 15" sills for the stone finish areas.

For that type and colour of fieldstone,I personally would use a blue-gray limestone (about the best of the blue-gray is found outside of Ennis imo,the limestone you get in the midlnds,laois & Kildare is a bit darker,though that could work too)

I Think that the granite is too light coloured and will contrast with the rubble infill,giving a sore thumb effect.

Yes that's exactly what I'm worried about with the granite cills. They look great on their own and have a lovely texture. The limestone cill is the safest bet I suppose.

For that type of filed stone I would go with 90mm blue / black Slate cills. With a bushhammer edge.

Here's some images of the limestone cills. I suppose they look fine but the smooth surface doesn't suit in my opinion.

Those are the blue-grey cills I had in mind;) Wait until they get a few years of Irish weather,or alternatively you could have the cills scabbled/sparrowpecked which will take the shine off the cills-this however is almost guaranteed to chip/spall the stone around the edges which can distract from the smooth cut.

There are other styles in which a mason could dress the cills,but IMO,best to leave them as they are and in years to come they will look the dogs bollocks.
