Archer Season 5 - Discussion?

So Season 5 of Archer aired on Monday in the US on FX, and I'm sure lots of us have watched it already. I couldn't find a thread on this previously through searching, if there is one, apologies - Also, I forgot to put "SPOILERS" in the title, if a mod could change this, that'd be deadly, thanks!

In lieu of the montage from the end of episode 1, I'll just leave this here...

For those of you who haven't watched Archer so far, you should. It's absolutely excellent - Seasons 1-3 are on Netflix, plans for 4, I believe.

    Also, Spoilers below. Fair warning.

For those of us onto Season 5, it's a bit of a departure from the previous show. The first "episode" was more of a setup for the next three episodes in that story arc - Archer Vice - there's even a little montage showing, presumably, some of the events that are to come in the next while. They did a three parter before with Arch of Darkness and it worked pretty well - even if this goes outside the normal ISIS boundaries and has the team starting out as drug dealers after the FBI take them down for spying without a license. It'll be interesting how it works - after 4 great seasons, they've earned a little leeway to experiment!

Some great moments in the first episode, Lana and Archer's verbal spat in the interrogation room, Krieger's little one liners - he wins moment of the episode hands down for the "Yeah, I'm around" line - and the whole montage at the end has me really looking forward to the next installments. Good to see Krieger gets upgraded to having his own credit in the title sequence, he's my favourite character.

I get the impression they're going to play a lot more with Archer and Lana and her kid, Archer never having a father (bar Woodhouse) and Lana having the unknown sperm donor kinda leaving a nicely placed hole there for someone to step into.

Allowing themselves to step outside of the spy routine allows the writers to do more, so I'm interested to see where they'll go after the story arc is over. Apparently Malory gets a bigger role this season, and Cherlene is here to stay. I can see Cyril getting downgraded a bit, perhaps. He's the one with the least "moments" in the last while, and seems to have swapped with Krieger as the butt of a lot of jokes over the course of the show so far.

On a side note, it's a pain in the hole having to wait a week for another episode. Netflix and downloading a whole series at once has spoiled me.

    Snap!

I just bumped an older thread.

Love the fact that they are changing the set up of the show, very brave.

    Stealing my thunder, you b*stard.

They've enough goodwill stocked up to get away with the change in format, I reckon. Assuming it's not sh*te, which given this episode, it won't be.
