    Hi,

On the family grave is a name of one family member. It says "died in the war in Africa 8th Sept 1916". No idea of his birth date.

Now I checked the new online Irish war dead but could not find any record of him.
I also tried the UK one (http://www.cwgc.org/) but again no record.

Any idea how I can get more info? No grandparents alive unfortunately to inform me better.

I'm not even sure if it was WWI.

    Thanks

Possibly he was not part of WW1 but part of the Maritz Rebellion.

The Government declared martial law on 14 October 1914, and forces loyal to the Government under the command of General Louis Botha and Jan Smuts proceeded to destroy the Maritz Rebellion.

as per Tom's post, always useful to post a name.

The unit that appears to have most CWGC recorded deaths in Africa on that date was the South African Horse in Tanzania :

    ALDRED A J Private
    ANDERSON T Lieutenant
    BICKLEY H E Trooper
    COTTINGHAM G W Sergeant
    FLYNN A R Lieutenant
    GUNNING W H Private
    HARMSE B T Private
    JOHNSTON J B Private
    KRUGER J W Private
    MACKENZIE U K Captain
    STOLTZ G G F Corporal
VAN DER MERWE A P Private
    VAN DER WALT G Private
    WAIT C Private
    WHITCHER P Private
