Leaving bikes at Malahide/portmarnock dart station

Recently moved out to portmarnock. Slap bang in the middle of Malahide and portmarnock dart stations.

So does anyone here cycle to either station in the morning and leave the bike there for the day ? Is it safe ?
Would have thought malahide was a safer option

    Cheers

What about Sutton? Wouldn't be too far, I see that bikelocker have, well, bike lockers available there.

Locked mine in both a few years ago, had lights stolen in Portmarnock - the guy working at the station spotted them and stopped anymore, he's got a good view of the bikes (When he's there, another story entirely).
Changed it up after my lights were taken, and went to Malahide - my bike was robbed within a week, they took 5 or 6 bikes in one go. Nobody in the station saw anything.

Both have problems, Portmarnock is secluded and not always busy - whereas malahide, there's nobody with a view of the bikes during the day, but its a busier station.

This probably hasnt helped at all.

I kept a bike in Malahide for a few years - a real frankenbike beater. The lock was interfered with on one occasion and someone kicked at the shifter. Other than that I experienced no problems, possibly becasue it just wasn't worth the effort. I did, however, see the results of one bike being vandalised and a mate had a decent bike nicked. All of that over perhaps five years or so. I haven't parked a bike there in about three years ; I commute by bike now.

There is no shelter at Malahide - just racks that are open to the elements.

If I was leaving a bike there...

    1 - Don't leave it overnight

2 - Use the crappiest bike that's up to the job

    3 - Decent lock

4 - Leave nothing on it (lights, panniers etc)

One way or the other it's always a risk leaving a bike locked in public, so up to you really

By the way, it's quite a pleasant commute (to the city centre at least) from where you are via the Clontarf cycle track. Would you consider commuting by bike?

I wouldn't leave a bike in either station. I'd recommend locking it in Malahide village, near the Garda station. The bike parking area in the station is not at all secure.

    Thanks.

I cycle nearly every day, but the odd day this is an option I want to have

    Excellent idea. Cheers
