Hey guys, question for you, A friend of mine was texting me this morning complaining that the company she works for messed up her pay this month and that they won't be able to pay her till next months payday, now her last payday was before christmas so as you can imagine she's pretty hard up for cash without having to wait til this time next month, so my question is this, do they have to pay her missed wages in a reasonable time frame or can they wait till next month to pay her?

If it is stipulated in her contract that she will be paid monthly in arrears, then they are obliged to do so. They are saying she will have to wait until next month as they probably do only one payment run per month.

That is exceptionally poor service from her HR/Finance Dept. They could easily do an individual payment transfer I'm sure. If I was her, I just wouldn't take no for an answer.

This is extremely dodgy. Does the company have financial problems? There is no excuse not to just pay her wages today. (I used to do payroll).

Happened to my colleague one time and the cheque (together with an updated payslip) was issued in the same week. She was short over 1k, so there was no questions asked by payroll. If your friend didn't get any money at all then a cheque / transfer should be made immediately.
The only time i had to wait a month was when i was short 100 euro - that's understandable.

Happened to me regarding holiday pay for December . Now not getting it till I get paid early Febuary . Just another example of ineptness with HR / Payroll . Was told I would receive the money one week , now told I have to wait . Get paid by the month , totally unfair ....
