Job Bridge eligibility, didn't register as unemployed

    Hi,

My brother was made unemployed a few months ago (more than 3). He's been offered a job bridge place that has strong potential to turn into a job at the end.

It turns out that he's been living off his redundancy and didn't go and sign on until this week.

Does anyone know if the period of unemployment can be back dated? He's not looking for payments to be back dated, just to have credits applied back to the day he finished up in his last job.

A person would need to have been sick and/or in hospital in order to have a Jobseekers claim (or credits) backdated to before the claiming date. Generally speaking, not knowing that you should have applied is not an adequately 'good reason' to request backdating. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/claiming_a_social_welfare_payment/making_a_late_claim.html

JobBridge eligibility is the same for everyone i.e., to have a live claim or signing for credits and to have had such a live claim for 78 days or more out of the past 6 months.

If during this period you were available, fit and actively looking for work and can prove it (CV, applications etc) then you can request back dating. It would involve payment unless you would have had a waiting period during to the amount of redundancy received (€50k +).
Request the back dating in writing to your local office. If approved and you have 78 days+ you can go for the Jobbridge. Good luck.
