While the January transfer window is usually overshadowed by a lot of bullsh*t and ‘Arry sticking his head of a car window, this one could be somewhat different due to the large number of clubs fighting for a Champions League spot and looking to plug the gaps in their teams. United are currently sitting in 7th, out of the FA Cup and in dire need of fresh blood. Baines has been the man most fans think is needed to shore up the United defence, but there’s rumours he’s about to sign a new deal for Everton. Ronaldo has also been hinting he won’t end his career at Real. Would be the signing of the year if United tempted him back, not going to happen though! United are unlikely to find the players they need during the January window, and Moyes will likely have to wait until the summer (if he is still in the job by then).

Arsenal are still in the hunt for a top striker and this could be the biggest signing of the window if they can pull it off. Diego Costa and Jackson Martinez seem to be targets, among others. Chelsea could also be in the hunt for a big name striker too, with Torres and Eto only managing 7 goals between them so far this season. Mourinho seems to be keeping his cards close to his chest on this one, although he has recently signed Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic. Despite recent injuries, City are unlikely to sign anyone big after bringing in Negredo, Navas, Jovetic and Fernandinho over the summer.

Towards the bottom end of the Premier League, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should have some cash to work with as Bond villain Vincent Tan looks to avoid dropping straight back to the Championship, and we could see a number of smaller clubs make key signings over the next few weeks. Below is a list of confirmed transfers and speculation based on a quick search of some of the main sports sites.

    Confirmed Transfers
    • Aston Villa sign Wigan striker Grant Holt on loan.
    • Stoke take Man City striker John Guidetti on loan for the remainder of the 2013/14 season and sign Aston Villa's Stephen Ireland on a permanent deal.
    • Chelsea complete deal for 18-year-old Bertrand Traore and then loan him out to Vitesse Arnhem.
    • Everton sign former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady from Spartak Moscow.
    • New Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer completes deals for Magnus Wolff Eikrem from Heerenveen and Matts Moller Daehli from Molde.

    Speculation
    • Arsene Wenger is trying to do a £35million deal for German whiz-kid Julian Draxler - to turn him into the next Robin van Persie.
    • Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen claims Ravel Morrison wants to quit West Ham for Craven Cottage. They recently had a bid turned down for the midfielder.
    • Three of the players Tottenham bought during the £100million spending spree six months ago - Erik Lamela, Etienne Capoue and Nacer Chadli - already want out.
    • Man City have made a fresh move for Porto's highly-rated defender Eliaquim Mangala.
    • Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood is keen on Nottingham Forest's promising keeper Karl Darlow.
    • David Moyes is set for more transfer embarrassment with Paul Pogba ready to snub an amazing £40m return to Manchester United.
    • Sunderland manager Gus Poyet will have to pay £6.5million to secure the signing of Ignacio Scocco.
    • Crystal Palace have expressed an interest in Osasuna's towering midfielder Raoul Loe and Marseille full-back Jeremy Morel.
    • Liverpool have joined the chase for Porto midfielder Fernando - who signed a new deal last month.
    • West Ham will need to move quickly if they want to land Juventus forward Fabio Quagliarella, with Lazio reported to have joined the chase for his signature

The Daily Mail have a good ‘IN/OUT’ table here. There haven't been any interesting moves just yet but anything could happen over the next few weeks. Transfers made now could easily affect who the top four will be come May.

Use this thread for anything transfer related, including wild speculation (Messi to Palace etc)… As far as I know the window is open from January 1st - 31st.

    Hi Roryc,
As much as I really appreciate the effort you put into starting this thread, I'm going to have to close it. It really belongs on the Soccer forum, and any confirmed transfers that affect FPL can be discussed on the January Wildcard thread.
