Dj tech issue

Been having a slight issue with a controller I got recently thats brand new. Decided to start messing around DJing and got a brand new Denon mc2000 controller (USB) to hook up to my laptop with virtual DJ (have to start somewhere). It all works fine the controller is already mapped so it was a straight forward plug and play situation which is fine.

Where im having a problem is with the fact that I can PFL/pre listen the song cued on the other deck while other is playing. The controller works great and can play both decks perfectly and as far as I know the controller already has a soundcard built into it sothis shouldnt be a problem but for some reason no sound is coming from the headphones.

When I mess around with the configuration of virtual dj I can get sound to come out of the phones but then the laptop doenst play anything out :S Duno what the issue is and hope someone can shed some light. I think I just need to get an external soundcard but just wanna make sure before I run off to get one.

tl;dr Denon mc2000 controller and virtual Dj work fine but cant pre listen/Pfl music on headphones, need tech advice if possible

I'm only used to old fashioned analogue systems :p, but I see the back of the Denon has an RCA master out. Would you need to connect this to external speakers like a traditional mixer I wonder? Someone else here will know for sure.

I don't have one of these but I think I know the problem.

As said below, you need to have the RCA out (red and white) go to a speaker.
The idea is the RCA output plays what you want to hear i.e. what the crowd would hear in a club.

There should also be an earphones jack ( I assume this is what you're plugged into) which is what only you can hear when you have the tracks Cue'd.

    Finally.

To make your life easier, what you need -
    1x RCA cable to 3.5mm jack (http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Phono-Stereo-Audio-Cable/dp/B000Q6LSVS)

    1x 3.5mm-3.5mm Female to female jack (http://img.alibaba.com/img/pb/751/050/279/279050751_940.jpg

    1x Powered speakers (http://www.logitech.com/en-us/speakers-audio/home-pc-speakers)

You need powered speakers as there is no pre-amp in your mixer.

    Mixer-> red/white RCA cable->F2F jack->Speaker

    Hope thats clear.
That setup is about 30 odd quid purely just to play a few tracks in your room and get used to mixing in tracks. Anything more than that you'll want to upgrade your speakers etc.

Op have you downloaded the latest firmware / drivers for the controller? I know the dn-mc6000 had compatibility problems out of the box with VDJ but I think it was fixed by denon with a driver update, could be the problem. The mc6000 was sold as a "plug and play" unit but a lot of people had very infuriating issues like the one you described.

Also, not trying to be a b****x but are you using a legit copy of VDJ? Some of the ones going around the torrent sites are buggy and will cause issues like this.

Thanks again for the info much appreciated.

Like what Grateface said id say I need the RCA adapter. Iv a 1/4 jack and some decent enough speakers already so ill just get myself the adapter hopefully itll sort me out.

Also mickeyk, yea iv a legit version of VDJ 7 it works perfect but I did read on some forums that the issue can stem from wrong firmwire or the driver so ill update them just to be 100%...

I got Serato intro free with the denons but want to get around the VDJ problem first before I give it a go :D Plus heard its tough to use at the start :S But thanks again for the feedback, ill keep you posted if all goes well!
