Tax and back pay

I recently discovered that i was on the wrong point of my pay scale for the past 8 years. This was not my fault but my employer. I only checked it out in November 2013 and this is when i discovered the error. My total back pay from 2006 until 2013 was almost €10,000 but i only got €3700 nett. When i quirred this they said the payroll just does it all together and thats the way it goes. I am not happy about this because back in 2006,07,08,09 etc i wasn't paying the same tax or pension deduction, USC, etc. Looking at my old payslip i think i was only paying about 20% tax and PRSI, .I have been heavily penalised through no fault of my own. Is there anything i can do? Thanks
