I understand that you have to be 9 months unemployed to qualify for btea which is a joke really because the government is basically punishing you for working imo.

My contract is up in my job this Friday and I really want to get back to college and get my degree, im 25 now and I cant stomach anymore badly paid jobs which is all thats left here for the best part. Il be just a week or two shy of the 9 months unemployed when next September rolls around , do you think they can make an exception or is it a strict 9 month unemployment rule?

Also if i do continue working how does the government expect people to afford college? I'm not exactly making great money, I'm barely surviving.

I think they can be quite strict on the 9 months.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

i think it's 9 months from when you apply also, not from starting college but could be wrong on this.. either way they are quite strict on it but i suggest you push hard and explain your case and hopefully you'll be made an exceptional case. gl :)

I actually found out today lads when I went into open my claim to sign on.

They accumulate all the months you were unemployed so if you happened to get a short term contract like I did and you were left go it carries on from the amount of time you were unemployed before that.

    Thanks for the help !.
