    Hello!

We are looking to upgrade our current 01 Passat to a 2009 model. Our budget is around 10k plus whatever we can get for our 01 as a trade in or could sell privately. We want something with good resell value. We do about 19k kilometres a year so we want a diesel that is economical. We hope to keep what we get for around 5 years.

Does this look like a good deal?

    Thanks in advance!

It's the bog standard entry level model, a pretty bare place inside with very little in the way of creature comforts. Not sure about it having strong resale values as it will be 10 years old when you sell it and will have well above 100k miles on it.

BTW you would be better off selling the 01 Passat privately, it's 13 years old and will be worth very little to a dealer who will give you next to nothing for it. That price the dealer is asking is a straight deal price ie no trade in.

Was the 2.0 common rail by 2009 or would this be the older PD variant?

Thanks for the reply. We did think it was a little bland.

We've been offered 2k trade in for the 01 but it might be worth selling privately instead and putting money towards a better 09 model.

From what I've seen the common rail came in late 08 which is why we are looking at 09 models.

You will nearly always do better by selling your old car privately. Passat got minor improvements in 2009 including new interior switchgear and steering wheel.
