Hi. Myself and my friend (both girls in our 20's) are planning on heading to New York in June/July for 5-6 nights. We've been looking at staying in either Hotel Metro, the Wellington or the New Yorker. Have any of you stayed in any of these or have any experience/knowledge re which would be best to stay in?

Also if you have any tips on nightlife, shopping, food etc that would be great?! :)

Any help at all is welcome :)

    Thanks in advance
    L

check tripadivisor for actual pictures of hotel rooms by travelers and info on location etc.

    e.g http://www.tripadvisor.ie/Hotel_Review-g60763-d99392-Reviews-Hotel_Metro-New_York_City_New_York.html

time out guide good for cities (available in bookshops) - some of it online also for nightlife etc.

We stayed in the Desmond Tutu Centre. Loved the hotel, lovely rooms, short walk to metro and its a historic building.

I would recommend not staying in The wellington as i stayed one night their and woke up to a cock roach crawling up my arm .
The new york Hilton Midtown is lovely if you can get it at a good price.

    Shopping:
Times square, 5th avenue , Macy's Herald square. If you are looking for the shopping Mall experience i would recommend going a little out to Queens you can get the subway all the way from Manhattan : http://www.shopqueenscenter.com/Map/

    Restaurants:
Shake shack http://www.shakeshack.com/ Great food and you will also find other great food options around the theater district

    Mexican: http://www.rosamexicano.com/newyorkcity/lincolncenter/index.php?action=page&id=1976&group_id=1955&location_id=14

    Drinks:

Tonic bar in Times square is great and they do have happy hour and karaoke on certain nights.

Hells kitchen has several good bars one being http://thesnugbarnyc.com/ with happy hour and if your Irish might get a free drink :P

Thats all i have for the minute but if i think of anything else will post here

You will have a great Time :)

    Hey,

Don't have much time on my hands right this minute, but I lived & worked in NY for 6 months around 2 years ago. While although I won't be great in terms of knowing good hotels or temporary accommodation, if you have any specific questions about areas, getting yourself around Manhattan, things to see, etc, give me a shout.

Make sure to check out the TKTS booth in Times Square if you're interested in seeing a Broadway show. You can get tickets for 50% off on shows for that day.

Or the one in Brooklyn if you want to avoid the Manhattan queues.

I used to stay in The Wellington until they doubled their prices a few years ago. Shame as I was really fond of the place. Absolutely perfect location with the subway outside. Central Park and Times Square you can see from your room. And there used to be a great bar called The Irish Pub a few doors down.

As for Hells Kitchen try Rudys on 9th. Quality dive bar.

The New Yorker is ok. Cheap and cheerful but you're in NYC !! You won't be sitting around your hotel room for long so as somewhere to lay your head it's grand.

Best part about it is the Tick Tock Diner at the entrance. Great diner style food served 247.

    You'll have a blast !!

ill be staying in Hotel Metro on Friday for 5 nights so Ill report back about that hotel.

all I know so far about the hotel is it is 100 yards from Macys.
if you look up the empire state building is above you.
they have a rooftop bar that should be open in july
they do a continental breakfast that is included in the price,

I booked the hotel through Tour America.
I could not match the price they gave, there was always a difference of 200 euro between their price and online prices.

I stayed in Hotel Metro in 2011. Great location, fine rooms, free breakfast. Would stay there again.

We stayed in the Milford plaza in November, there was a few bad reviews on tripadvisor but afaik every room is renovated now and it was lovely. We were at the back of the hotel and could see Times Square from our room which was really nice.
Jersey commons? (Always confused with that and Woodbury gardens/commons!) is great for shopping, much cheaper than in the city and they seem to have extra sales on all the time

Have a great time, would love to be heading back!

Last night tonight in hotel metro.
Room booked was a premier Queen.
    Room is nice and big.
    Loads of space.
Bathroom is small but prefect size.
    Shower is nice and big.
    Coffee machine in room.
    Stayed in 817.
    Breakfast is continental.
So bagels, Croissants, danish pastries. Philladelphia cheese and some cereals. Along with coffee and juices.
Some nice restaurants around and 100 yards to macys and 50 to the underground.
    Would really recommend.
