A few months ago my household decided to switch broadband providers, from UPC to Vodafone, we were told we'd get "up to 70 mbps", after a huge hassle getting it installed. We're lucky to get 3mbps, and it's never rose above 4. The reasoning for this is those speeds aren't available in our area. This simply isn't adequate for what it's used for. We've asked for them to terminate the contract, and they refuse to. Is there any way we may be able to force the termination of the contract? Or are we screwed until the end of the contract?

Can you tell us more please? Did you actually get connected to efibre or are you still on dsl? How were you told that you would get up to 70mbs? Was it as a result of an inquiry or as part of your actual sign up?

When I was talking to vodafone the sales person said I'd get up to 70 mbs but she said they wouldn't guarantee that I'd get that. 3 or 4 is taking the p1ss tho.

eFibre is unavilable in the area, so, it's a non eFibre connection. While signing up we were told we'd get up to 70mbps, even after voicing my concerns that Eircom lines usually provide bad service, they reassured me that that's no longer the case and I will be getting high speed internet. Skip forward about 2 months to when the internet is up and running, the speed has never exceeded 4mbps. I rang up, they told me fibre power is not available in my area, so my speed is usually around 2/3mbps. Is there anything I could do to get them to terminate the contract? Are they in breech of contract for supplying me with such slow broadband considering I was told I'd get up to 70mbps? Or are they grand because I was only told I'd get up to 70?

My mother lives in a rural 1mb area. Vodafones line checker says "up to 70". Not up to 8 or 24 -70. Now 1 is between 0 and 70 fair enough but still...

if they sold you a product which could not at the time of the sale possibly reach the 70 mb then you were mis-sold and you should bring them to the small claims court, cost you 25 euro to go there.

You could make a formal complaint to Comreg - have you asked Vodafone if they have a recording of the call in question?
