Have a choice between a stevens namur and cube cross race
    Both entry level bikes .
Don't feel the need for disk brakes and both are comfortably in my budget ...has anyone any input as there is very little difference with regards spec and weight ..

If you plan to use them on regular road cycles, stay clear of cantiliver brakes. They're hopeless.

Are you buying new or used. I spent the last month or so looking at CX bikes and to be honest I would have thought there are better spec'd bikes for the same money as the CUBE out there. Unless you are getting a deal on it. I don't know anything about the Stevens

they are the 2 bikes that are in stock in my size (some other choices are not in stock until march )
.also ive seen them in the flesh (but not my size ) not many shops seem to have any cx on the floor and for example one shop said we can order one in but need a non refund deposit not ideal if you find that you dont like the fit .

thanks but looking for new .

Haven't seen either of them in the flesh. The Cube has a carbon fork, Stevens aluminium. The Stevens has mini-vs, which are great for braking, but if you plan on racing, they clog up really quickly in the mud. I switched from mini-vs to TRP cantis this year and had no problems with mud clearance, braking is good. The Avid cantis on the Cube aren't the best, but they can be changed.

    Thanks nak

there does seem to be a trade off with both ,some bits better that the other and vise versa .there both close on weight but the cube frame has huge welds a bit off putting .

I respect your looking for new but the cannondale is like new has disc brakes perfect for on or off road and Cannondale are renowned for their excellence in al.frame quality super smooth welds.

Yeah, I was having the same problem. Apparently the time to buy CX is August/Sept.
