I'm under the impression that any tv with a digital tuner built in, will be able to pick up the Saorview channels yes?

The only difference is MPEG4 and MHEG5.
Unless its states it is MHEG5, it will not allow for Digital text, is this correct yes?

So, say I go and buy any TV in Northern Ireland, that is compatible with Freeview, it will pick up the Saorview channels, once i have the Aerial connected. It just might not pick up the Digital Text.

Pretty much any Freeview HD set will work and an increasing number are nowadays.

I think you would be pretty unlucky to find a new TV that wouldn't work with Saorview.

If you want to be sure it's guaranteed to continue working 100%, & Saorview is all you want to receive via the TV's own tuner, get one on the Saorview approved list. A lot of them are the UK models you will find for sale in NI, anyway.

    UK uses MHEG5 too, BTW.

Not necessarily. Freeview uses MPEG2. Saorview uses MPEG4. Some Freeview sets can get MPEG4 but not all. Even if it does work you may have other problems such as channels going in the 800s and clock being stuck on GMT all year round.

Suggest you buy a Saorview approved set in your own country.

Plenty of shops selling obsolete stuff to unsuspecting shoppers unfortunately :(
