PDC Qualifying School

So, anyone got a list of the runners and riders?

Have to say, would love it if they stuck a few cameras on this competition even if it was behind a red button on Al Jazeera. People playing for their livelihood, or at least the chance to be in the mix, there must be more drama at this competition than most. It's also interesting to go through the names, there'll be a fair few "oh yeah, what happened him" turning up.

I see James Connor in there, along with a host of names that have flitted across the televisions over the years, Woods, Grubb, Roy, Clark, Hine, Evison, Gray etc. etc.

God love 'em, I guess many of them would hardly make enough on the tour even if they did get their place, but still presume it would be a big change to give up the tour altogether.

Would be great if it was televised.

Surely will be at some stage in years to come.

They are bringing in a second tour for the players who don’t qualify for the main one. It is going to be called the PDC Development tour worth £280.000.

The PDC are looking after players while the BDO are still trying to stop players making a living with the BDO now having a 180 day ban on any players switching back over from the PDC .

THE format, prize funds and other information for the 2014 PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour and PDC Unicorn Youth Tour have been confirmed, with £280,000 prize money on offer in the PDC's Development Tours this year.

The PDC's expansion will continue with separate Challenge Tour and Youth Tour circuits to held during the year, with each offering 16 tournaments for players.

The PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour will be open to all PDPA Associate Members who fail to win a Tour Card at Qualifying School - giving these players a series of 16 events worth £10,000 apiece in prize money, with £2,000 to the winner of each tournament.

PDPA Associate Members will also be able to compete in the six UK Open Qualifiers, eight European Tour Qualifiers and the World Championship PDPA Qualifier later this year, providing further opportunities to break through at the top level.

The PDC Unicorn Youth Tour, meanwhile, will allow players aged 16-21 to compete in 16 events which each have a £5,000 prize fund, with £1,000 to the winner.

The players who finish first and second on the respective 2014 Challenge Tour Order of Merit and Youth Tour Order of Merit will receive two-year Tour Cards to move onto the PDC ProTour in 2015 and 2016.

In addition, the players who finish from third to eighth on each Order of Merit will receive free entry to the 2015 PDC Qualifying School.

The PDC will also stage the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship this year, with the leading 48 players aged 21 or under from the 2013 Challenge Tour Order of Merit joined by 16 qualifiers to compete for the title and £40,000 in prize money.

The early rounds of the World Youth Championship will be held on Friday April 4 in Reading, when the 64 qualifiers play down to the final, which will take place at The O2 in London on Thursday May 22 during the Premier League Darts Play-Offs.

New PDC World Champion Michael van Gerwen is a former Youth Tour Order of Merit table-topper, while reigning World Youth Champion Michael Smith - another former winner on the Youth Tour - knocked out 16-time World Champion Phil Taylor at Alexandra Palace.

2013 Challenge Tour Order of Merit winner Ross Smith and runner-up Ben Ward also competed at Alexandra Palace, while Arron Monk, Joe Cullen, Ricky Evans and Jamie Lewis were other players who took part in the World Championship who have progressed through the PDC's Development Tours in recent years.

Former World Youth Champion James Hubbard has joined those stars on the PDC ProTour, while Ben Ward and Adam Hunt will move onto the ProTour full-time this year after earning Tour Cards with their Challenge Tour success in 2013.

The eight weekends on on the PDC Development Tour in 2014 will begin with a double-header of Youth Tour events on the Saturday, before two Challenge Tour events are held on the Sunday.

PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour events will only be open to PDPA Associate Members who do not gain a Tour Card at Qualifying School, which will be held from January 15-18 in Wigan.

For Q School entry information, please see http://www.pdpa.co.uk/about/membership/ and enter before 12pm on Monday January 13.

PDC Unicorn Youth Tour events will be open to players who are aged from 16-21 on January 1 2014, with players who turn 16 during 2014 eligible to play once their birthday has passed. Players who turn 22 during 2014 are still eligible to play in all events during the year.

Entry to PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour events will cost £50 per tournament, with PDC Unicorn Youth Tour events costing £25 per tournament. Entry will be available through the PDC Online Entry System and will close at 5pm (UK time) on the Friday preceding the weekend's events.

All tournaments on the PDC's Development Tours will be an open draw with no seedings. Challenge Tour events will be the best of nine legs throughout, and Youth Tour events will be the best of seven legs throughout.

So the next four days are going to be incredibly tense as many players try to resurrect their careers, others try to begin theirs and others still try to successfully switch from the BDO to the PDC. It all kicks off today at 12pm. There are plenty of players to look out for.

As usual I'm hoping Chris Mason can win his tour card, he has failed the previous two years. I would like to see Christian Kist get his too. Willie O' Connor has lost his card so is trying to win it back and there are plenty of other Irish Players on there.

The full entry list can be found here:

The first round draw hasn't been made yet.

Uh oh, I think I gave Willie a different first name on another thread!

Like this competition, like the way it fires up so many names (not the obvious Mason/Kist ones) that has you thinking "Oh yeah, didn't he have that great tussle with that fellow on tv back in 2008" stuff. It's such a fine line, thought McDine would have a solid career, he went way backwards, afair he came through this last year, by the end of the year he's back on tv and having a mild dig at Van Gerwen.

Day 1 tourcards winners in a field of ~500.

Kyle Anderson - Aussie 9 dart finish guy.
Antonio Alcinas - Consistent Spaniard with some good tv scalps.
Benito van de Pas - not quite good enough to progress through the Lakeside but his BDO standard was always likely to be enough to get past the PDC mugs.
Andrew Gilding - Unknown to me.

Christian Kist and Joey Ten Berge with Last 16 and Last 8 finishes confirm the expected BDO superiority and give themselves solid chances of getting tour cards on the 'repechage' if they can repeat such finishes (obviously better if they can get them automatically). Steve Hine and Mark Hylton other known names who got to the late rounds.

Willie O'Connor L128, Peter Manley L256 must do better. No appearance from Chris Mason.

    No appearance from Chris Mason.

From what he's saying on twitter Chris Mason is only going on Saturday. He is only interested in getting on the Challenge Tour for the time being as he doesn't have the funds for the full tour and wants to see how he's playing.

Was he on the Spanish team that did well in the World Cup about 3 years ago? Beat the English afair.

Ten Berge is a mystery, I have concluded that he just doesn't have it. He looks the part, has the swagger, the fast throw, real flash and I always wanted him to make the breakthrough...and then he just got dumped out early year after year in the BDO Worlds.

Yeah it was himself and Carlos Rodriguez. Carlos is trying to win a tour card too after dropping outside the top 64.

Tomas Seyler,Andy Parsons, Gerwyn Price and Dave Bird won their cards today, none of them mean anything to me (apparently Seyler played at the recent PDC World Championship against Painter but fcuked if I can remember him).

O'Conner only reached L64 so has only a slim chance now on countback so will have to get to the last 4 one of the two remaining days.

Thomas Seyler is a solid enough player from Germany, not surprised he got a card.

Well done to Ireland's Keith Rooney on reaching the last 16, he has a great chance of getting a card after that performance.

Willie O'Connor made it to the last 16 today and picked up 5 ranking points which puts him on 8. One more point will probably be enough to get his card.

Kist made it to the last 8 as well.

Should see him get a card as well then.

Willie O'Connor gets his card on a count back after being the 24th ranked player with 24 cards on offer.
