Dementia - long term care in Dublin

I am looking after my mother at the moment with Dementia whilst she is in the mild to moderate stages of the condition I wanted to be organised and check about facilities when the time comes. I don't know if I put her on a waiting list now so that I have peace of mind and look at a few facilities or do I have to apply for a nursing home the last minute when she is advanced. A social worker rang me last week and said I would be better waiting until her condition is more advanced as there are hundreds of people waiting to go into homes at the moment I naively thought it was put Mam on a waiting list now and I can have peace of mind and if some other person needs to go in before Mam they can take her spot if Mam isnt ready (but Mam is still on the list till she is ready) guess it doesnt work like that though. I have no other family so I am doing all the research myself.
When the time comes I would like to get Mam into a nice nursing home preferably in north Dublin does anyone know of any nice ones where you have had experience with family members?

Sorry to hear about your mother. We looked after our mother for as long as we could before she had to go to a home. But we have a big family and it made it a bit easier. I can't imagine how hard it is to do it all yourself. I think you need to get more advice, from the local health service in your area, her doctor, from the Alzheimer society. Also, make a list of the nursing homes and go visit them to talk to the nurses etc, some homes cater specially for Dementia patients. Best of luck.
