Getting away from 9-5

I recently changed jobs as my previous contract finished and I've went from a very flexible working environment to one where it is the complete opposite. On the plus side, everyone on my team is really nice which is a nice surprise. I would really like to work my own hours but I don't want to be unemployed and/or under pressure financially. I'm also not sure I have the skills or ability to be self-employed. I work in the software industry, I have some programming skills but wouldn't be experienced enough to be a developer.

Just wondering if anyone here has transitioned out of the general 9-5 rat race into something more flexible?

If I had the option to work part-time in my job, I would seriously consider it. However I'm only there 3 months and I don't even know if they have that option anyway.

Would you be happy working part-time as a software developer?

This does seem to be the obvious option.

    Do you like programming?

I like programming but it does my head in at times, especially when there are things i don't understand, which can be frequent.

I would be willing to work part-time if i had the option and if it was affordable.
