i passed the Nct but the guy said to me that there was a little bit of play in the Steering Rack on the Passenger Side,

    My questions are :

Why did he let it pass the Nct if this was an issue?

Is this a big job to do ?

Is this then recorded for my Next Visit to the Nct ?

    Thanks

he probably passed it because the play is within the limits of the test.

+1 but they will tell you about 'near-misses' as a courtesy so that you can mention it to the garage on your next service in case the condition deteriorates and causes you to fail on the next NCT.

All of which may serve to debunk the widely-held belief that the NCT is nothing but a money-making racket though I doubt it.

As said, he just gave you a heads up but the play isn't bad enough to fail car.
You don't need to fix it and it won't be recorded on anything.
It's something to be aware of though, in case it gets worse over the year.

These guys are mechanics and he was just letting you know that it might need attention, perhaps the next time you're getting something else done to the car.

    Decent of him.
