One day charity heroes

I've noticed a huge increase in one day charity heroes who participate in a single charity event and then wear the t-shirt everyday like they've managed to change the world. I'm all for charity, but do it and get on with your life, nobody cares if you managed to run 5k and raised 4€ for some charity you didn't research because you watched a youtube video about how evil Joseph Kony is.

The worst offenders are the ones who don their t-shirts they earned for running 10k through a mud based obstacle course like it's some sort of grand physical achievement.

    Urabell's Golden charity rules

    1) Research your chosen charity, make sure you're not being duped into a kony-like scam or lining the pockets of some CEO

    2) Be regular, one big blow-out running a 10k once in your life < spending 10 minutes a week long term.

    3) Don't tell anyone about what you do, if you make a difference you'll get the praise you crave

    Matthew 6:1-4

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Yes I am aware doing something is better than nothing so spare me that argument

I'm the type of guy who can feed orphans by running 10k and still make it to the soup kitchen by noon while everyone I know thinks I'm still in bed, if that qualifies me as a BAMF then I'm a BAMF

Sometimes it's good to let people know,it encourages others and highlights a needy cause.

    So there I smite you.

Don't think Mathew was considering media awareness, marketing and the dog eat dog world of charities in the 21st century.

    FFS what a stupid post.

The fact that anything charity related has become the devil as of late is very down heartening. I'd be fairly sure that people attending such events have little to do with posing or making themselves "holier than thou". It is so easy to nip pick this thing critics call slacktivism.

We can all laugh and be cynical about all the have a go heroes trying to save the world from Kony by liking a Facebook page.

You can't compare this out and out charity events. I'd have respect for people doing fun runs, head shaves, movember and the like. Sure we have to put up with 100s of instragrams of them and their friends at Colour run covered in purple, pink, green paint or Mr moustache telling us all about how he is uber aware of mens health but can you not get over this/yourself and see the postivity of it at all?

No doubt Mr/Mrs bigwig CEO gets an almighty chunk of money or even Johnny/Mary gets to do a skydive but there is certainly more money to trickle down to the needy coming from the thousands doing their a 10k in the Phenonix park than somebody sat on their holes. If these people want to broadcast their actions, be it by wearing a tshirt of mentioning it BIG WHOOP there are one milllion thing more worthy of getting your knickers in a knot.

I really don't get this carry on at all.

If I buy a cake at a cake sale, or some tat at a jumble sale, at least I have something in exchange for the money I gave to the charity. But if you grow a tashe or run 10km -or to really take the piss, climb Kilimanjaro- what do I get? My name scrawled on a line on a piece of paper. Fcuk that, I'll donate if I feel like it, not so you can get yourself some attention.
