Moving From Science to Medicinal Chemistry

I'm currently in second year science and I am interested in swapping into med chem for third and fourth year instead of specialising in one of the science (tr071) options. I know med chem is a direct entry course but I've heard of people swapping into it from science in the past. Has anyone here done this? Anyone know how I would go about doing it? Thanks :)

You need to have the required CAO points for med chem for your year, and have to contact their course coordinator to arrange the move (if you're taking the same subjects as medchems)

I think the bolded is illogical if it is the case.

I agree, but that's what people who moved from science into NPCAM after 2nd year said was the case

When I was in 2nd year it was possible, though unofficially. You need to contact the course coordinator for Med Chem and the Science Course office. It depended on your end of 2nd year marks back then.

Yeah it's possible to switch in provided you have good grades and had enough points at the CAO stage.

You should know that there's very little difference between the chemistry and medicinal chemistry degrees save for a module or two across JS and SS. Med Chem and Chemistry also choose projects from the same pool. Med chem students also do not get preference from "medicinal projects" afaik as they're all based on grades.

If I were you , I'd just do the straight chemistry degree and take the med chem options. You'll hear more about the courses and the process after reading week.
