I am guessing the answer to this, but would anyone know if it's possible for someone on social welfare to borrow to buy a house? They would be getting a 55k inheritance and would be looking to borrow 15k for the place over say 10 years. Which would be about the same as the social welfare rent contribution, of around €150 per month. I was thinking about the credit union.

Credit Union would be your only hope and would depend on the individual CU's policies.
