The missus is thinking of changing her 07 Leon for a Tucson or a Sportage.Having a poke around Donedeal etc. and a quick question regarding tax.Found a 2l diesel Dodge Caliber as a comparison with road tax quoted as €570 but tax on a 2l Sportage was €710?? Is it emmisions or am I being thick?

Are we mad considering changing, she wants something a bit bigger for the kids & their stuff but hates estates and people carriers (I hate people carriers also). The Leon is rock solid but she's thinking strong of changing.

Why would you change from something that is desirable and saleable to the automotive equivalent of herpes?

And both of your choices are no bigger than your hatch anyway. It's hard to beat an estate for the clobber that you carry with young uns:)

OP, did you look at the Nissan Qashqai? Women seem to like them a lot.

Sportage is likely pre July 2008 registered and so CC based. Difference in tax is €140 a year, hardly a deal breaker.

She doesn't like the Qashqai and @ superdedupity she hates estates.Judging by how one of her friends handles her estate (dings & scrapes) it's putting her off the idea of one altogether.

Qashqai's are overpriced imo for what they are.Even the Caliber I used for comparison would be more desirable pricewise plus it has a VW 2l diesel engine.

The Caliber isn't desirable. If it was then they would sold a lot of them new here but they didn't. And I cannot imagine a SUV being any easier to park than estate.

But it sounds like she has made up her mind already.

Read up on the Caliber & found it was just down to bad marketing as they actually aren't a bad machine with decent fuel economy.
A lot of our choice will be dictated by price also, most desirable option would be to sell the Leon and have the cash to buy a replacement by not having to put any extra towards it.Found a nice one on Donedeal but when I contacted him about it I was told it's sold. The seller never took the ad down.

Used parts for the caliber are virtually non existent in this country. Girl at work has one.
