My friend has an 01 fiesta zetec due for NCT soon. I checked the oil and it seems a little low. What oil can i put in it, can i use oil from Tesco?

    is this one, top linkok?

What is difference between part and fully synthetic? Is an Irish reg car with no modifications uk spec

the halford oil at the top of the link will be fine. Ford recommend 5w30 oil, although some people suggest using a heavier oil with a car that old. Mine is a 99 reg, i use 5w30, no problems, although i use castrol magnatec, but mostly cause i can get it cheaper in motor factors than the cost of Halfords own

I looked at Magnatec , it is recommded by ford, it also meets the specs in the car manual something like SAE before the 5w30
Edit:It is 5w30 WSS M2C913A, not sure about the WSS bit

There are several sites for "what oil for my car?" type questions
Eg http://www.castrol.com/castrol/sectionbodycopy.do?categoryId=9024084&contentId=7073092 mentions Magnatec 5W-30 as you already know.
If car hasn't been serviced for a long while you may want to service it now - oil, oil filter and air filter. All these will help with emissions.

Edit: yes the magnatec meets the 5w30 WSS M2C913A as per the car manual. how much would i put? One litre? It is below the first mark

Don't just top it off. Never mix oil. Drain it and change oil and oil filter. Also change air filter

if the oil is of the same spec why can't you mix it?

I get the impression the oil is only being checked for the NCT and only noticed it is now low. Oil should be changed per x amount of mileage or at least once a year if the mileage is not reached. I don't think that car is well known for burning oil so it be so low would suggest to be it was not changed regularly.

Also seeing as the OP nor the car's owner seems to know what spec to use, there's no guarantee to what spec oil is currently sitting in it. It needs a complete oil change along with filters imo.

if the oil level is too low it wont be nct tested.

must be great to know everything or think one does. I said it was a little low, the NCT letter says ensure oil level is right. A little top up was all it took. It is changed as should be and the spec in it is right as was done by mechanic whose opinion would be accepted before yours

    nonsense

We're referring to never mixing different specs of oil. We go off the information you post which was you asking about different specs of oil. You never mentioned your mechanic doing anything afaik. How about in future just ask your mechanic before even bothering to post here if you're not gonna take anyone's opinion?
