    Hi Folks,

Looking to get some advice from you. The missus and I are looking to head off somewhere in March in Europe for a weeks holidays. We're not super experienced travellers so I need some help on this one.

We don't have much in the way of requirements but we'd like to go somewhere pleasantly warm. We'd need to be able to fly there direct from Ireland. We're not sun loungers so if it were a little scenic that would be ideal. It can be a city or rural location- we're good with either.

Really we just want to go somewhere to enjoy the climate. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Canary Islands are warm year round.

Alternatively somewhere southern Spain (Seville area) or Italy would do you well.

I was in Rome in March 2012 and it was very warm. And Seville was great that time of year too.

    What do you call warm?

Anywhere around the southern side of Europe.

I went to Northern Italy once in April and it was cloudy yet tepid. Should of gone to Sicily!!

If you're talking about the continent, then you'll be relying on luck to get warm weather, especially in the first half of the month. Yes, you can get warm weather in the Algarve, southern Spain, the south of Italy and so on, but it is more common to get mediocre weather with temperatures between 13 and 16-17.

In the Canaries it's the other way round. You can get unlucky and get mediocre weather, and that's more likely to happen to you in the first half of the month, but it's a good bit more likely that you'll get pleasant weather that isn't overly hot (20-23 degrees would be the usual range).

Turkey is pretty reliable weatherwise and a good mix of culture and leisure. Turkish Airlines are excellent and fly from Dublin.

For the sea to be swimmable but ideally for the temp not to be above 30°.

Cascais in Portugal. Beautiful place and only 25 mins on the train to Lisbon which is definitely worth a 2 night stay during your week.

I second the recommendations for the Canary Islands or Turkey.
I spent a week in Alanya in Turkey last year and couldn't recommend it enough. Beautiful beaches with really clean water, nice restaurants, and plenty of places to go on day trips (roman ruins etc).

The Greek islands would be perfect for what you want! So beautiful and scenic and the weather is always gorgeous.

Greece was my first thought but it seems none of the airlines based here fly there during March :(

AFAIK Ryanair are opening up a new route from Dublin to Marrakesh at the very beginning of April, might be another option to you. Morocco would be very different to the resorts of Greece and Spain and if you're not a confident traveller I wouldn't advise it. If you are though then in a week you could spend a few days exploring the souks and sights of Marrakesh before getting a bus a few hours to the coastal town of Essaourira where you'll find beaches and lots of cool restaurants and markets. Or if you were up for a longer journey you could head south to Merzouga and spend a few days on a camel, safari in the Sahara desert, sleeping under amazing stars in Bedouin tents in the desert.

I'd look into Malta which has direct flights with Ryanair in the spring from Dublin.
We went there in April for our Honeymoon and it was decent and warm, especially if you are in the direct sunshine which theres lots of.
Advantages are that they speak english, use the euro and its a nice compact place to visit for a couple of weeks.

We went to La Gomera for a week in late November and the weather was fine. Beautiful scenery, not spoilt and relatively cheap.

The only thing was getting there; an hour to Gatwick, 20 mins from Tenerife airport to the harbour, an hour by ferry to La Gomera, 90 minutes from there to Valle Gran Rey. But it was worth it.
