I've finally decided I'm going to buy an e60 5 series in the next 2 weeks - I just love the look of them

Here are my 2 choices :

    1. 2007 520 D Automatic Saloon SE Spec. M 47 Engine.

    2. 2007 523 i Automatic saloon SE spec. N 52 Engine.

Now I know people are thinking these options are weird, one petrol, one diesel etc. But I just love the low end torque of the diesels.

I will be doing 15,000 miles a year.

    I want reliability and comfort.

Any comments , observations, advice ?

first thought would be, there would be a fair price difference between these 2 cars. would it not be more like 2007 520d vs 2008 523i ? at least ?

ive owned 9 bmws and currently have a 645ci and a 525d touring . while i have loved them all i will admit the diesels are quite troublesome compared to the petrols . so that would put me off modern bmw diesels unless i was getting a long warranty with it

Yeah. Suppose that would be the best comparison alright. A year older diesel so. ( but the diesels of this era have yearly tax of 710, so that will scare away most irish people and drive the price of the car down a bit )

By modern diesel do you mean ones with all the efficient dynamics stuff ?
Or just anything from 2000 or so onwards.

15,000 a year hardly justifies a diesel, you'll also be hard pressed to find the diesel with friendly milage in a 07.
Is there 2 particular cars your looking at?

Get ya. That's what I'm kinda looking at. The diesels mainly have over 100,000 miles. But these diesels seem to be good for twice this - if looked after of course ; )

Don't have it narrowed down to 2 yet.

While I agree with what you say, the OP is going to find it extremely difficult to find a post 2008 petrol 5 series in this country. I just had a quick look on Donedeal and Carzone and here's what I found:

    Donedeal:
    Total post 2008 5 series: 575
    Diesel: 574
    Petrol: 1

    Carzone:
    Total post 2008 5 series: 766
    Diesel: 764
    Petrol: 2

Going by these statistics, you are more likely to come across a Lamborghini than a post 08 5 series
Maybe a 530D might suit the OP? Or maybe even a 535D?

Would like a 530d or 535d but the prices of them are high. I'm seriously biting my lip paying tax of about 1000, any more than that is a joke. So 1000 is my limit for tax.
