We've recently inherited a farm from a deceased relative and want to modernise it. We have decided firstly to build a slatted shed and looking for quote with all included for housing 30-35 store cattle 16m x 24m approx, (still to be determined). If you could give me a rough estimate per pen, square foot/metre or even the price of one you got in it would help when we start calling around.

250 - 300 sq meter. 16m * 7m in slats would accommodate 35 store cattle with loads of spare space

A bay is 4.8M wide so you go up in these steps ie you build 2/3/4/5/6 bay shed. Dept depends on use and slats. In general slats come in sizes from 10'6'' to 16'6''. My own preference if building at present is to use 16' in a new build as you have more space in tank underneath.

The shed you proposed 24mX 16M would be equivilent to a three bay by 80'deep or a 5 bay by 50'deep. The first thing to assertain is what size shed you really need. How may acres of many is there and what quality is it. No point in building a small shed and finding that the land can carry way more cattle and be out building next year.

Also if you contract the shed to a specialist builder it will work more expensive than subbing if you have the skills to do same however if using a specialist builder only one person can screw you as opposed to 5 or 6 id subcontracting.

If you build a 6 bay shed using 16' slats and making it 50' deep it will cost you at least 55K and if not careful 100K would not be unusual if you got rode bu a few guys.. However you cannot really price sheds like house by the sg M as adding an extra bay to a shed or tank will not add a fixed % to cost after the first.

As a rough guide it cost to build a slatted unit about 50% extra to go from 2 bay-3 bay, 25% extra from 3 bay-4 and 15% extra/bay after that up to 6 bay. You also have to work on a spec. I would advise you to make sure you have a well build tank and that steel work ins galvanised.

However you need to assertain how big a shed you really need with propose expansion in mind.

How much for a 4 bay slatted shed with calving bays at the back and a cattle crush behind the calving bays with enough space for a tractor to be parked inside be ,the slats would be 14'6''
