    Hi lads,

The missus told me her left indicator sometimes flashes quickly. My immediate thought was blown indicator bulb but she says that it only happens sometimes.

Went out to have a look just now and it only happens when braking!

When braking the, the brake light on the left doesnt come on, instead thr indicator bulb dimmly lights up and so, when braking + indicating it flashes rapidly.

Im wondering is this just a blown brake bulb or could it be something else like a bad earth?

    Its a Micra K12 btw

    Cheers

Sounds like a bad earth, check all connections could be moisture or corrosion around them, check all bulbs also.

Had a similar problem with a Ford Transit last week, in that case it was a blown bulb causing the quick flashing indicator. Id change the bulb if I was you. I'd nearly be certain that will fix the problem. Although I'm no auto-electrician!

    Agree with the above.

Ye, looks like you have bulb blown.

I have added to the title that it only happens when brake is pressed.
As said before, remove and check for corrosion (also the side repeaters) but it sounds like the rear wiring cluster on one side has become worn.

Had this problem on a Peugeot which started while indicating to turn into NCTM centre, took ages to fix, was a bad earth on rear light, cleaned all connections with wire wool and wd40

Tbh, I immediately assumed the OPs car was french when I saw the thread title. Surprised to see "french disco" lights on a nissan, must be the Renault influence. Sounds like bad earth to me too. Pull out the light units, may be a burnt out track on the PCB?

I had something similar and just sprayed all the connections with WD-40 and it sorted it.

    Give that a shot pal

Just to demonstrate the great help of some boards users, my bro was driving my van one day (it's a furniture removal van so has my number on it), I got a phone call and they just said "is that cormie? I was driving behind your van there and as it was turning left the lights got distorted as it braked, it looks like a bad earth to me!"

I was delighted, didn't even know of the problem and get a phone call to let me know, with a description of what was wrong and a diagnosis all in a few seconds :D

Sorted! Bulbs were all fine. Bit of moisture in the light cluster and by the block connector!

Dried it all out, blew at the block connector and presto! :) ... of course i made out to be a much bigger job to the missus for extra brownie points

I was driving down a long straight road a couple of weeks ago and the car coming towards me kept turning it's lights from off > parking lights > headlights > to Hi Beam quickly over a period of 3 or 4 seconds ! Thought the guy had gone nuts until the car got closer and I realised it was a Citroen Picasso 131 Reg !!

So you won't tell her that it was a light blow job with some additional moisture?
