Finding freelance proofreading work

I've done quite a bit of proofreading work over the last year or so and have realised that I really enjoy it and am (I think!) good at it. I was getting work from an outsourcer but she's now employed a full-time proofreader at her office and doesn't need to outsource anymore. I've tried using sites such as People Per Hour and Elance, but it seems that rates are rock bottom due to all the competition from developing countries. I know that there is money to be made, as this outsource I worked for was doing very well, but I'm not sure where to look or how to advertise myself. Would anyone be able to give me any advice?
