Without a car type extremely limited. What kind of trails are you intending riding? You're limited to places you can cycle to which means ticknock ballinastoe etc are out unless you can get a riding buddy who has a car. Only place near you that you could ride to is the phoenix Park I'm told there's xc trails in there but I've never been as I can't stand xc trails

BS to that. I used to live in Killester and head no problem cycling all over Wicklow from there. Used to love cycling through the city centre on the way home after a good muddy spin :) Scrappy, your limits are in your own head.

Armstrong, joining a club is a really good idea (The best way to learn and be shown where the really good trails are). There a a few doing begginers spins at the moment. MAD and EPIC, along with the newly formed Giant club, are worth a look. Most will base these spins in the three rock area (Ticknock), so as long as you're happy to cycle out to there then you'll be on the path to some great adventures!

Rather you than me!:) before I got the roadie, coming up to douce enduro I was cycling the enduro bike on road spins for some training maybe about 17-20k and hated it! Pure hardship cycling a 150mm full sus on the roads. Hated it.

If you're used to a road bike it a pain alright... but if you're only mountain biking its all good training :)

Loads of bikers up the mountains at weekends, all on nice new bikes.. though.. the best way to enjoy your biking is to join a club and have the craic..

EPIC MTB are running a series of spins for newcomers:

go for it. join a club. make friends. and then people will give you a lift further a field no problems.
without a lift you could still access 3-rock/ticknock which has about 5 million trails in it.
as someone else said really the only limits are in the mind.

Anyone who is interested in getting involved with a club and furthering there mountain biking can just show up and see how you get on.. just make sure that you bring the following:
    • Helmet
    • A fully functioning entry level MTB with working brakes and gears.
    • 2 tubes
    • Tyre levers
    • Pump
    • Powerlink
    • Multi tool
    • Bottle & drink
    • Banana's, fig roll's etc...
    • Proper shoes and pedals = either spds and spd shoes or proper flats shoes like 5.10s and proper flats shimano DXs or any with multiple pins.
    • A base layer is essential regardless of the weather.
    • Light rain-jacket (absolutely no cotton tracksuits allowed).

Make sure to post that request on the EPIC forum, where you're more likely to get a result. (I can't help... I've no car)
