whats the best oil to use in order to keep pto shafts sliding in and out easy. came to one today and had a job freeing it. I used to use grease but reckon its a bad job as it collects dirt and gets stiff and half seizes. is a light oil such as hydraulic or a heavy oil like chainsaw oil better?

Silicone lub sprays repel water and doesn't attract grit which causes to stick

I always use grease, cover keeps all the crap out.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Did a quick search there and found this video from Comer. Comer producs would have a good name. They recommend grease to be used. They have a special grease nipple for it too. Nice design. Go to 10:10 on video.
I've only ever used grease BTW.

Make sure to keep your shaft covered when in use you don't want to be catching anything

all my shafts have covers. that can be the problem when they get stuck,i end up then belting the top of the cover to get it to free out.

Whatever you use, use it regularly and you should have no problem.

My brother would never think of oil or grease on a shaft until hes hitting it with a hammer to move it !!

I grease the knuckles and a coat of burnt engine oil along the shaft and never had 1 stuck yet

I prefer oil to grease, as it can go hard I find but each to their own! What ever works once it slides in and out freely. Usually give em a shot the start of the season.

We would usually give them a lick of grease but I got a few drums of used cooking oil awhile back and everything is getting lubed up with it
